Gardens that are designed,
not just planted.
Shape Gardens Plus brings horticultural training to garden design, planting, and ongoing maintenance — one person, start to finish, across Melbourne's inner east.
Trusted by homeowners, landscapers and property stylists across Melbourne’s inner east.
One project, three stages, one person accountable throughout
Design
Planting plans grounded in how your site actually behaves — aspect, soil, drainage — not just what looks good in a mood board.
Planting
Hands-on installation, planted at the right time and depth for each species, not just placed for the handover photo.
Maintenance
Ongoing care that responds to the season and how the garden is actually growing, not a fixed monthly checklist.
Trained in horticulture, not just landscaping
Shape Gardens Plus is run by Shane, a horticulturist with a BSc in Horticulture from the National Botanic Gardens, Dublin — which shows up less in the sales pitch and more in the plant choices, the soil prep, and which jobs get turned down because the site isn't right for what's being asked.
No subcontracted crews, no franchise playbook. The person who designs your garden is the same person who plants and maintains it.
Small enough to notice the details
Plant-first, not photo-first
A garden that looks right on handover day and a garden that still looks right in three years are designed differently. We plan for the second one.
One point of contact
You deal with the person doing the work, from the first site visit through to the maintenance visit eighteen months later.
Local, not templated
Plant selections and layouts are worked out for your specific block in the inner east, not adapted from a project somewhere else.
Maintenance that's actually offered
A lot of design-and-plant outfits stop at handover. Ongoing seasonal care is a core service here, not an afterthought.
Works alongside your other trades
On larger projects, happy to coordinate with builders, pool contractors, architects and landscape architects — or run the whole job solo when it’s planting and maintenance only.
A few gardens shaped this way
An overgrown, cluttered courtyard cleared and rebuilt with stamped concrete paving, garden edging and a fresh planting border along the brushwood fence — drag to compare.
A vine-smothered shed corner cleared of ivy and overgrowth, then edged and screened with a young magnolia hedge along the boundary fence — drag to compare.
The same courtyard from the deck — a cluttered, overgrown yard opened up into a paved entertaining space with a magnolia hedge, ornamental grasses and a new shed — drag to compare.
A front garden corner cleared of overgrown grasses and volunteer growth, then replanted with fresh stock and drip irrigation — drag to compare.
A bare, freshly cleared side yard turned into low-maintenance turf and a planted border along the fence line — drag to compare.
Inner east Melbourne
Based in and around the inner east — if you're just outside this list, get in touch anyway and we'll let you know.
Shane lives in Sunbury, and is now taking on select projects further out through the Macedon Ranges.
Start with a site visit
Tell us a bit about your garden and what's not working. Most projects start with a walk-through of the site before anything is quoted.
